Deadpool Used Recycled Footage from X-Men: The Last Stand

From Michael Bay’s The Island and Transformers: Dark of the Moon to Disney’s The Jungle Book and Robin Hood, recycling footage from other movies is a common practice in Hollywood. Film productions need to cut costs somewhere, so why film a new scene when you can slip a perfectly good old (and already paid for) one into a movie without the audience ever noticing the difference? Except sometimes the audience does notice.

After spotting a familiar shot in Deadpool, keen-eyed YouTuber Erik Germ went back and compared it to a similar scene in X-Men: The Last Stand. Although 10 years separate the two movies, they share the same shot, though the context is different.

At the beginning of Deadpool, Colossus (Stefan Kapicic) and Negasonic Teenage Warhead (Brianna Hildebrand) fly to Deadpool (Ryan Reynolds) in the X-Men Blackbird. When they leave Xavier's School for Gifted Youngsters, the movie cuts to a shot from X-Men: The Last Stand—only this time it’s a different group of superhero mutants leaving the X-Mansion. It’s also a different rendering of the X-Men Blackbird, but it’s the exact same shot.
