While immersed in the virtual reality world inside your Oculus Rift or HTC Vive, it can be hard to remember not to stub your toe on the coffee table that exists in this reality. A new product from Nyko may be able to prevent those injuries. This fall, according to Gizmodo, the technology company will release VR Guardian, a monitoring device that acts like an invisible fence for humans.
By positioning four Bluetooth sensors to create a square enclosure, the system can alert anyone wearing the included wristbands that they’re about to breach the boundary (which can be up to 20-by-20 feet). The wristbands—which will retail for $99—send that notification by vibrating when the wearer is at risk of stumbling too far (and toppling a bookshelf).
