Explore 6 Million Years of Human History in Only 10 Minutes

Munich-based design studio Kurzgesagt (whose name means "in a nutshell" in German) creates one explainer-themed animation video per month. In the past, they’ve explored everything from the science of black holes to the European refugee crisis. For their latest installment, Kurzgesagt made a delightful 10-minute overview of the history of human origins, which was recently shared by Gizmodo. The video describes how our species emerged, and lists a few major developments—fire, tools, language, agriculture, industrialization, and the scientific revolution, to name a few—that helped us evolve into the advanced society we are today.
It’s surreal to remember that 99.9 percent of human history was completely different from how we experience life today. However, Kurzgesagt provides us with a reminder that our species is always changing and evolving. Considering that the internet only became available to most people a generation ago, who knows what our world and its inhabitants will look like in 100, 500, or even 1000 years?
