This is Sweepee Rambo, the newly crowned World’s Ugliest Dog. She won the competition at the Sonoma-Marin Fair in Petaluma, California, last weekend. Sweepee Rambo is a 17-year-old blind Chihuahua-Chinese Crested mix. She accompanies Jason Wurtz of Encino, California, to work every day.

"I've had girlfriends over the years and they were jealous of her and like I told them, she was here when you came and she'll be here when you leave, that's the best friend I have," Wurtz told TODAY.

Ålesund, Norway, is the site of a Midsummer Festival called Slinningsbålet that traditionally includes a bonfire. The bonfire tends to be bigger each year, and this year’s stack of pallets and kindling was 155.5 (47.4 meters) feet tall! That’s a world record. The structure is built on a spit of land out in the bay, and fire department boats stand by for safety. The fire is lit at the top, which means someone has to climb all the way up, and then all the way back down in a hurry. You can see a video of the tower’s construction and destruction here. The burning begins about four minutes in.

Friends Derren Guile and David Schneider were out kayaking last Sunday off the coast of Sussex. They were dressed as Batman and Robin because they were participating in the Superhero Paddle at Shoreham Beach. The cosplay event turned into an opportunity to become real heroes when the two saw a kite surfer struggling in the distance.

David, aka Robin, said: “We were out in the water having a bit of fun and I noticed this kite surfer had got into a bit of trouble. “His kite was in the water and he was being dragged across the beach. “I probably watched him for about ten minutes and thought ‘he’s not getting that back up’, so I paddled over, obviously dressed as Robin and called my comrade to help me. “He was gobsmacked when we turned up. He just looked round and said ‘oh no’. “I said ‘it’s not every day Batman and Robin come to save you is it?’.”

The kayakers helped the surfer to shore, and then went back out to retrieve his surfboard. The surfer didn’t stick around long, as “he was a bit embarrassed.” The news site compared the caper to a famous scene from a BBC TV special in which two guys inadvertently fight crime as they travel to a fancy dress ball. You can see that video at the Bognor Regis Observer.

Randy Bova of Guilford, Connecticut, was in his bedroom with the door shut, listening to music on a recent Saturday afternoon. His mother and brother weren’t home. Bova’s dog Bailey ran upstairs and frantically started barking at the closed door. That wasn’t typical for her. When Bova opened the door, he realized the house was on fire! Bailey ran to her kennel in fear, so Bova pulled her out, and they both escaped the house. The house was a complete loss, but thank to Bailey, all the family members are okay.

Car salesman Adam Elliott, of Newcastle, UK, was arrested for dangerous driving in January. To be precise, he is accused of driving while standing up, as he was observed looking over the top of the windshield in a convertible Ford Ka. When Elliott appeared in court this week, he pled not guilty, and maintained that he was sitting. Elliott is 6’ 7” tall, and was delivering the vehicle to a customer. Since the vehicle was so small, he put the top down to give his head clearance room. Elliott was released on unconditional bail, and a trial date was set for January of 2017.
