Since 2015, the position of Receptionist of the United States, or ROTUS, has been held by a Deaf woman, Leah Katz-Hernandez. After studying government at Gallaudet University in Washington, D.C., she worked at the Chicago office of Obama's 2012 re-election campaign and then as an assistant in the office of First Lady Michelle Obama. In her current position, she welcomes visitors to the West Wing.
