It’s easy to imagine how certain pills dissolve after you swallow them. Pressed powder pills sometimes start disintegrating the second they hit your tongue. But what about, say, a liquid gel?

Macro Room, a YouTube channel devoted to close-up images, shot this series of pill-dissolving images. The timelapse shows how Advil and other over-the-counter capsules slowly dissolve in liquid. The result is psychedelic, fascinating, and a little gross to imagine happening inside your body.
