Nature's Best Buds: Timelapse Shows Bugs Crawling Over Blooming Flowers

Japanese artist Yoshiyuki Katayama's short film Umwelt only captures relationships that blossom. In the clip, which took third place at the Australian Vertical Film Festival in May, insects casually hanging out on flowers that appear to bloom instantaneously. Because the bugs are moving at regular speed, it creates the illusion that the flowers are as well. This clever editing is the result of combining two different timelapses, which were both shot on a Canon EOS 7D.

Viewers can watch the movie and enjoy footage of a scarab beetle exploring a Portuguese squill, a kanabun perched on a lily, and some crab spiders duking it out on a Gerbera. Check it out above.
