Meet the Secret Grammarians in Ecuador Who Correct Graffiti Mistakes

facebooktwitterreddit

Two anonymous street artists are trying to save the city of Quito, Ecuador, "one punctuation mark at a time," according to Great Big Story. Called the Acción Ortográfica Quito (Quito Orthographic Action), they skulk around town with a can of red spray paint, correcting graffiti containing spelling and grammar mistakes.

Word of Acción Ortográfica Quito's efforts has spread abroad, and language pedants with a vigilante streak in Europe, Latin America, and Mexico have also adopted the duo's high-minded (albeit likely illegal) cause. Learn more about the global grammar movement in the video above.
