Behind the Scenes With a Master Maze Maker

While navigating a maze, curious pedestrians are often too focused on solving the puzzle to wonder about its creator. Great Big Story went behind the scenes (or, should we say, the hedges), and interviewed Adrian Fisher, one of the world’s leading maze designers.

Fisher runs an international maze design company, based in England, and estimates that he’s built over 700 full-size puzzle networks around the globe. The designer creates mirror mazes, landscape mazes, panel mazes, and other mazes—and they all have one thing in common: “I’m trying to make it as ingenious and tricky as possible,” Fisher tells Great Big Story. “But in the end, I’m also an entertainer. I like to leave clues that help you solve it, and you'll feel so good about yourselves when you've beaten the maze designer. Like a good movie, when you get to the end, you don't want it to stop."
