Rogue One Trailer Gets a 1980s Makeover

Between The Empire Strikes Back, Return of the Jedi, Meco’s “Ewok Celebration,” and more plastic versions of the Millennium Falcon than you could shake a lightsaber at, the 1980s belonged to the Star Wars universe. So it seems only appropriate that one fan would want to pay tribute to the series’ retro roots by creating a trailer for Rogue One as if it had been made in the decade of excess.
Filmmaker Damien Kazan’s minute-long creation takes viewers back to a long time ago in a decade far, far away, when completing one’s VHS collection was a major triumph. (Finding room to store all those clunky videotapes was, of course, another story.) Kazan expertly recaptures the decade’s aesthetic, right down to the squiggly tracking lines.
While Rogue One will be available for sale on DVD and Blu-ray as of April 4, a VHS version doesn’t seem to be on the horizon.
