My favorite Sesame Street duo, Bert and Ernie, have visited a movie theater together four times on the show. During each visit, the guys have gotten into all sorts of trouble.
Want to feel like a little kid for a few minutes? Cue up these classic clips.
1. ERNIE'S SNACKING IS TOO LOUD (1973)
In this classic episode, Bert and Ernie visit the movies for the first time. Ernie's snacking gets out of hand, and Bert ultimately suffers the consequences. (Note: this comes from the same episode as Sesame Street's sweetest moment ever.)
2. ERNIE REACTS TO THE 39 STAIRS (1974)
In this clip, the guys watch The 39 Stairs (embedded below) and Ernie flips out. I've been there, muppet-man. First, Bert and Ernie:
And now, the full version of The 39 Stairs (not to be confused with The 39 Steps). "Made by guy named Alfred."
3. TALL HAT LADY (1974)
This is why we have stadium seating.
4. THE PICNIC (1991)
Bert and Ernie watch a silent film called The Picnic. Charlie Chaplin is played by Sonia Manzano (Maria), and his date is Linda Bove (Linda). Bert gets buttery popcorn in his lap. They get shushed a lot. This brings me right back to being five years old.
5. BONUS: EVERYBODY ELSE GOES TO THE MOVIES (1985)
Snuffy goes to the movies! Bert and Ernie are nowhere to be found. Nobody believes poor Big Bird that Snuffy was right there.
