Plenty of movies retain the titles of the books they’re based on. The Princess Bride (1987). To Kill a Mockingbird (1962). Jurassic Park (1993). Others have totally different ones.
This quiz features movies in the latter category. You’re given the name of a book—either a novel, novella, or work of nonfiction—and it’s your job to identify what movie it inspired from the multiple-choice options below it.
Adaptation is a tricky concept to pin down. It’s not uncommon for a filmmaker to use an existing written work as a jumping-off point for a film whose characters, setting, and even plot bear little resemblance to the source material. So interpret the word inspired loosely while you’re taking this quiz: Some movies might faithfully represent the books they’re based on right down to the time period, but that’s not always the case.
