This is another puzzle from the anonymous 18th-century riddle-writer “Peter Puzzlewell”’s 1796 Collection of Riddles, Charades, Rebusses, &c.
Like all the riddles in this book, this charade-style game breaks down the answer word into its individual syllables, and then provides a set of fairly cryptic clues to each one in turn.
In this instance, the object that is the answer to this puzzle is a somewhat historical word today (and would probably have been somewhat old-fashioned even in Peter’s day), but see if you can work it out.
