A New Booke of Merry Riddles was published in London in 1665 as the follow-up to Booke of Merrie Riddles, first published earlier in the 17th century. Both were anonymous, but it seems likely they were the work of different authors: besides the five decades between them, the earlier book was far more serious and educational, and for the most part reads more like a biblical quiz book than a book of riddles (with answers such as “the sacrificing of Isaac” and “Eve and her children”).
