Riddles, Charades, and Conundrums was an 1822 collection of puzzles compiled by the English scholar and antiquarian John Winter Jones, a founder librarian of the British Museum. The riddles in Jones’s collection were mainly poems—though given his scholarly background, many of those in the book were written in Latin

The riddle below isn’t quite so esoteric, at least, though it will need a little lateral thinking to solve. Can you figure out what is being described in the verse below?
