Hidden among more than 100 riddles and word-playing charades, the 1815 puzzle book The Temple of Fancy contained a handful of rhyming word jumbles—simple two-line poems, either line of which supplies a hint to a word that is an anagram of that in the other line.
Admittedly, given that the book is over 200 years old, some of the charades and anagramming puzzles in the collection hinted towards some fairly old-fashioned words and phrases from out 21st century perspective—among them a country dance, a set of coach wheels, a trap ball, and even London’s Blackfriar’s Bridge).
The answer to the anagramming verse below, thankfully, is a little more straightforward. Can you work it out?
