The Best Sitcoms of the Early 2000s
There were some excellent sitcoms that started life in the ‘00s, but we’re looking at just the early period.
While That ‘70s Show started in 1998, it ran mostly through the early ‘00s, so it counts! The series brought the nostalgia of the past with a lot of relatable humor. There was an attempt to revive it with That ‘90s Show, but it just didn’t quite capture the heart of it.
Of course, Scrubs is up there as one of the best, with the comedy just recently getting a revival. The medical comedy brought us the life of the hospital, with new residents, JD and Turk, learning the ways of medicine and surgery. While the last season isn’t the most favored, we did get to grow up with the beloved doctors, and now the revival makes up for that questionable season.
The Office is a must-watch. I know what you’re thinking! That didn’t start until the late ‘00s. Well, it’s not the American version we’re talking about. It’s the UK version, which ran for two seasons and helped to bring the mockumentary style to life. Without the Ricky Gervais version of the series, which ran between 2001 and 2003, there wouldn’t have been Michael Scott and Dunder-Mifflin.
Another favorite from the early 2000s was Malcolm in the Middle, and it’s hard to believe that this series only ran for six years. It’s since gained a revival that was definitely worth the wait, and it’s clear to see that nothing has changed in Malcolm’s household. Dysfunctional families might be a nightmare to live in, but they’re excellent entertainment to watch on TV!
