Greatest Hair Metal Albums of All Time

Rolling Stone has taken a look at the best hair metal albums of all time. It probably won’t surprise many people to see that the self-titled album from Skid Row sits in fifth place. After getting through the mid-‘80s with another singer, Skid Row decided to make a switch to Sebastian Bach, and they saw their fame skyrocket. The band snuck in at the end of the decade.

Mötley Crüe takes the fourth spot with the 1983 album Shout at the Devil. They faced controversy at the time, considering the album cover was an upside-down pentagram, but it would go on to become one of the most memorable albums thanks to the music. Mötley Crüe focused on songs with a good melody, and it helped them shine.

In 1986, Bon Jovi released Slippery When Wet, the album that would help the band go from moderately successful to one of the greatest of all time. This is the album loaded with hit tracks like “Wanted Dead or Alive” and “Raise Your Hands,” and it has sold more than 28 million copies to date.

Poison has some of the greatest hair metal songs of all time, and not just in the 1980s. However, it’s the album Look What the Cat Dragged In that stands out, and it was their quickly recorded debut album. With “Cry Tough” and “Talk Dirty to Me,” there are some great tracks to sing along to.

What’s the No. 1 album? It’s Def Leppard’s Hysteria, which was released in 1987. There was definitely a pop to the metal, proving the band could move with the times in just the right way. It led to over 20 million copies sold, so we can’t argue with the process.
