This decidedly cryptic riddle is a word game taken from a New Collection of Enigmas, Charades, Transpositions, and &c., published in London in 1806.
This particular puzzle is a charade-style game, and it works by first providing clues to the individual syllables of the answer word, before a third clue hints at the word as a whole. In this case, you might need more than a little lateral thinking to decipher precisely what two-syllable word is being described, but it’s by no means a word you’ll be unfamiliar with. Can you work it out what it is?
