Popular Music of 2026

This year has been a big one for K-pop fans. After taking almost three years away from music, BTS made a return to the studio as a group. The song “2.0” is a way to tackle the reinvention, making it clear that there has been a substantial change, but that they’re tackling it with style. Their style shifted as well, and as you start listening to the album ARIRANG you’ll agree, and that all came due to the experiences of band members throughout the last couple of years.

Muse’s “Be With You” arrived with a bang. The new album The WOW! Signal, due on June 26, is a way to look back at how far the band has come over the last two decades. This track has three distinct dramatic elements worked throughout it.

We can’t overlook Alex Warren, who hit 2026 in style with “Fever Dream,” reaching the No. 3 spot in the UK charts and No. 21 in the U.S. charts. It’s another story of someone falling in love, and this one tells a rather real, if not surreal at times, story. We get the tale of how he fell in love with his wife, Kouvr Annon, and it turns out that it involved YouTube thumbnails.

Did you miss Lady Gaga’s release this year? It did only hit No. 50 on the U.S. charts, so that won’t be too surprising, but “Runaway” wasn’t just for her own album. This was a track for The Devil Wears Prada 2, and you’ll likely think of the movie as you hear it, especially as you think about the lyrics “You were born for the runway.”
