Watch the Hamilton Cast Sing 'Happy Birthday' for the 40th Anniversary of Star Wars
Before The Force Awakens (2015), Rogue One (2016), Jar Jar Binks, or even the infamous holiday special, the Star Wars franchise took off with A New Hope on May 25, 1977. In honor of the 40th anniversary of the movie that started it all, the current cast of the musical Hamilton paid homage to the film with a performance of "Happy Birthday" that opens the latest episode of The Star Wars Show.
On the surface, the Star Wars series and Hamilton couldn’t be more different: One story takes place in revolutionary America and the other in a galaxy far, far away. But the two have more in common than their tendency to attract die-hard fans. Music by Lin-Manuel Miranda is featured in both The Force Awakens and Hamilton. In the case of The Force Awakens, it’s the song in the cantina scene; in Hamilton, it’s the entire score.
You can watch the Hamilton cast belt out their birthday serenade in the video below. If you’re a fan of Star Wars, stick around to watch the rest of The Star Wars Show, a web series from Lucasfilm. This episode features birthday messages from Paul Scheer and Deadpool creator Rob Liefeld, an interview with author Timothy Zahn, and a magnificent vegetable carving of Luke and Leia.
