No matter how much insect repellant you pack in your suitcase, it's hard to avoid mosquitoes when traveling to certain areas. The blood-sucking bugs are active around the U.S., but there are some places where you're more likely to find them. According to Orkin, these are the most mosquito-infested cities in the country.

To compile this list, the pest control company looked at the number of mosquito complaints it received in the largest metro areas between April 1, 2020, and March 31, 2021. Los Angeles, California, was named the mosquito capital of America, climbing from its runner-up spot in last year's ranking. It's followed by Atlanta, Georgia—which was at the top of the list for seven years in a row prior to 2021. Washington, D.C.; Dallas, Texas; and Chicago, Illinois, round out the top five.

Mosquito haters could avoid these cities when planning their next vacation, or they could arrive prepared. There are many tricks for getting rid of mosquitoes no matter where in the country you find yourself. Garlic water, peppermint oil, sage, and rosemary can all be used as natural, DIY mosquito repellents.
