It’s Official: Tom Hanks is America's Favorite Movie Star
If you love Tom Hanks (and we know you do), you’re definitely not alone. According to a December poll of 2252 Americans, Tom Hanks is the most beloved actor in the United States. Each year, the Harris Poll releases its list of America’s favorite actors, and 2015 marks the fifth time Hanks has made it to the top of the list (he also won in 2002, 2004, 2005, and 2013).
Other actors to make the top 10 include Johnny Depp, Denzel Washington, Sandra Bullock, and Jennifer Lawrence. Somewhat unsurprisingly, most of the actors on the list have appeared in a major film in the last year, and all but two have appeared in a major film in the last two years. The two outliers are Clint Eastwood, who last acted in 2012's Trouble With The Curve (but who has directed several films since then), and John Wayne, who hasn’t appeared in a film for four decades and has been dead since 1979. Despite making his last film in the 1970s, Wayne managed to nab fourth place, and is the only actor who has appeared on the top 10 list every year since the poll began in 1994.
The list is accompanied by a breakdown of voters by gender, political preference, and location. It's full of interesting insights into movie preferences across America (for example, millennials were the only group to pick Adam Sandler as a favorite actor). Check it all out here.
