Most movies of the 1980s assured us one thing when animals were involved: they survived to the end. Sure, they may have gotten themselves into some trouble, but these movies were not in the habit of absolutely destroying us—with the exception of a few (Artax, anyone?). How well can you remember the names of the movies purely based on the names of the family pets? We’ve got a quiz for that:

If you got 8/8, then we’re impressed. We made this one a little bit more difficult than usual, so don’t worry if you got a couple wrong. The whole fun after this is rewatching the ‘80s movies and seeing the furry family members again.

Favorite Family Pets from the ‘80s Movies

Fans love some fictional family pets more than others, whether it’s because of their loyalty, their sense of adventure, or their cuteness. So, you likely remembered that Einstein was the name of Doc’s dog in Back to the Future. He was the time-traveling Briard who helped to test the first-ever time machine made from a DeLorean.

Then there’s Hooch from Turner and Hooch, which just makes it into this decade with its 1989 release. The French Mastiff was super high energy and sloppy, and it would take a very particular type of person to absolutely adore him. That wasn’t Tom Hanks’s Turner. At least, not at first. In the end, the two became stronger than boulders as they tracked down the criminals.

We mentioned the cute factor, and it’s Gizmo who steps in for that role. Technically, this sweet-natured Mogwai wasn’t quite a pet. He became a lovable member of the family, despite some of the antics and drama that would arrive with him. Of course, pet owners understand pet care, but this particular Mogwai came with instructions that most people would question. Why not food after midnight? Why shouldn’t it get wet? Gremlins soon tells us why.
