Tony Stark is without a doubt one of the most beloved characters in the Marvel Cinematic Universe. Though Robert Downey Jr. was not the massive movie star he is today when he was originally cast in the role (in fact, the studio didn’t even want him at first), fans now agree that no one could have brought Iron Man to life the way the Oscar-nominated actor did.

It’s no surprise that Downey’s recent conclusion in the MCU has left fans and filmmakers alike feeling nostalgic. He did more than just define the role of Tony Stark in multiple films since the first Iron Man in 2008; much like his character, Downey also took on the role of leader amongst the cast, hosting welcome lunches and parties for newcomers, as ScreenRant reported.

To honor his contribution to the MCU as an actor, character, and person, an Avengers: Endgame featurette includes commentary from the filmmakers talking about the process of casting Downey. Between their discussions are pieces of footage from the actor’s first screen test, as well as some behind-the-scenes clips.

While it’s sad to watch Downey at the beginning of his journey now, knowing how it all ends, this shows just how important his character arc was to the beloved franchise and the impact he will continue to have on its future phases.

You can see the full featurette, along with more bonus content, with Endgame's digital and Blu-ray releases.
