If you’re a fan of the Rocky movie franchise starring Sylvester Stallone and have always dreamed of one day sticking your mitts into an authentic pair of Rocky Balboa boxing gloves, here’s your chance. Prop Store in Los Angeles will be holding a live entertainment memorabilia auction on August 26 and August 27. Among the items will be a pair of gloves used by Stallone during the filming of 1976’s Rocky.
The black gloves with white trim can be seen in training sequences where Rocky’s mentor, Mickey Goldmill (Burgess Meredith) urges the Italian Stallion to believe he can conquer foe Apollo Creed (Carl Weathers). Though they were made by Casanova, the manufacturer’s label was removed. Wear and staining is said to be minimal, though it’s certainly possible some of Stallone’s sweat-delivered DNA is present. The gloves are expected to fetch between $12,000 and $16,000.
Prop Store has previously auctioned Stallone’s autographed yellow headgear equipment from 1982’s Rocky III ($4100) and his autographed yellow boxing trunks from the same film ($9500).
Other auction items include a Darth Vader costume used for promotional purposes in the late 1970s (estimated to bring $150,000 to $250,000); Tom Cruise’s Maverick fighter pilot helmet from 1986’s Top Gun ($50,000 to $70,000); and Will Ferrell’s Ron Burgundy suit from 2004’s Anchorman: The Legend of Ron Burgundy ($3000 to $5000). For the budget-minded, you can also try to score a poster signed by Harrison Ford for 1981’s Raiders of the Lost Ark ($1000) or a dehydrated Pizza Hut wrapper from 1989’s Back to the Future Part II ($400).
