Oreo Cakesters were a favorite childhood treat for many, and now the brand is cashing in on that nostalgia. After appealing to Pokemon fans with collectible cookies last month, the brand announced plans to revive one of its most beloved snacks. As Delish reports, Oreo Cakesters are making a comeback after being discontinued nearly a decade ago.
Cakesters attracted a cult following when they first appeared in 2007. Unlike the classic crispy cookie, the product featured vanilla "creme" sandwiched inside soft, fluffy cake. For customers who craved the flavor of Oreo in the style of a whoopie pie, the treat was a welcome addition to the brand's lineup.
Cakesters stuck around longer than many of Oreo's limited-edition cookies, but not long enough for some fans. The product disappeared from shelves in 2012, and according to Oreo, they've been dealing with the fallout ever since. The reintroduction of Cakesters follows "10 years of requests, pleas and direct messages," as the brand's announcement reads.
The relaunch isn't solely aimed at nostalgic consumers. Along with the Oreo Cakesters, Nabisco is debuting Cakester versions of its Nutter Butter cookies, complete with peanut butter-flavored cake and filling. Fans will have their choice of the classic snacks or the new option when both products hit stores in early 2022.
