Part of the fun of trick-or-treating is the unpredictability—kids never know what treats will be in their plastic jack-o’-lanterns by the end of the night. Though a varied candy haul makes Halloween more interesting, there are always one or two brands that show up again and again.
CandyStore.com crunched the numbers on 15 years of Halloween candy sales data to create the below map, which details each state’s most popular Halloween treat. Nationwide, Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups were named America’s favorite treat, with five states choosing it as their top candy. They’re followed by Skittles, which nabbed the top spot in two states, and took the overall No. 2 spot for America’s favorite sweet snack. M&Ms, Starburst, and Hot Tamales—in that order—finished out the top five candies.
