Being born just after midnight on New Year's Day is enough to make some babies famous before the ink on their birth certificates dries. A pair of twins recently delivered at a California hospital achieved something even more notable in their first minutes of life. As NDTV reports, newborn fraternal twins named Alfredo and Aylin were born in different years.
Fatima Madrigal and Robert Trujillo's son, Alfredo Antonio Trujillo, was one of the last babies born in 2021, arriving 15 minutes before midnight on Friday. His twin sister, Aylin Yolanda, was born just as the clock struck 12 in 2022. The siblings are the rare twins whose birthdates not only fall on two separate days, but on different months and years as well.
“It’s crazy to me that they are twins and have different birthdays,” Madrigal is quoted as saying in a Facebook post from Natividad Medical Center. “I was surprised and happy that she arrived at midnight.”
Both babies are healthy, with Aylin weighing 5 pounds, 14 ounces, and Alfredo weighing 6 pounds, 1 ounce, at the time of their births. The twins have two older sisters and one older brother at home.
Twins are rare to begin with, and the chances of twins arriving in separate years are exceedingly slim, with one estimate putting it at one in 2 million. Alfredo and Aylin are special, but they're not alone. On New Year's Eve/Day two years ago, an Indiana hospital welcomed two babies born in different decades.
